TO: All Customers of the Kane County Recorder’s Office
FROM: Sandy Wegman, Recorder, Kane County
SUBJECT: GIS – Fee Increase
The Illinois State Legislature enacted Public Act 91-0791 which in part reads “The county board of any county that provides and maintains a countywide map through a Geographic Information system may provide for an additional charge of $3 for filing every instrument, paper, or notice for record in order to defray the cost of implementing or maintaining the county’s Geographic Information System”.
Pursuant to 55 ILCS 5/3-5018, the County Board may, by ordinance, increase the fees allowed by this section and collect such increased fees from all persons and entities other than officers, agencies, departments, and other instrumentalities of the state if the increased fee is justified by an acceptable cost study showing the fees allowed by this section are not sufficient to cover the cost of providing the service.
The Kane County Board will be increasing the GIS fee from $10 to $17. Please be aware that I, Sandy Wegman, Recorder, oppose this increase in fees. However, I am duty bound to carry out the county Board’s directive and as such, the GIS fee will be increased from $10 to $17 and will be assessed by this office beginning December 1, 2010. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the County Board.
